Design

Lets start with the most abvious change. The design.  You can slighty say there is a different body. The body on the sides has a little edge. Which means the front section where the display is, is a single metal piece that fits into the metal rear casing. What else? Exact, that was the first impression of the HTC One M9.

It’s not a bad phone. Don’t worry, there are just to little obvious changes happened compared to the HTC One M8.

The HTC One M9 is 157g heavy. But there are also built-in some awesome BoomSound speakers. So basicalley the speakers are on the front side on top and on the button. The speakers make the phone longer. The BoomSound gives you a great experience while you are watching a movie or just listening to music. Your friends wil be jelious about the sound, make it sure you show them a few videos or stuff like that and they will get even more jelious 😉 The M9 is slightly heavier and thicker than the Samsung Galaxy S6 which is competing with the HTC One M9. But the look and feel is different on the HTC. The anodised aluminium  makes it free from fingerprints on the back. Also, on the back are small rubber ish lines for the aerials.

Another design feature or change is the Standby button which HTC decided to have on the side instead on top. I guess this schould make it easier to hold and use the phone with just one hand or they want to give the customers the feeling their hands got bigger 😉 Anyway, the side button makes it definitley easier for an one hand navigation or at least turning the display on 😉 Sometimes be aware you press the right button cause the volume buttons are confusing close above the standby button and got split in two sperate buttons. So, there are three buttons in a row.

Exclusive BoomSound

The built-in BoomSound makes a good job! I don’t get it. Placing the speakers next to the screen should be pretty much standard in any phone. For the BoomSound not only the placing of the speakers is important, also the fantastic clear sound you get out of this little speakers is awesome! You will definitely love the sound with a little bass which makes watching a video, movie or just listen to music feels like an incredible experience (for a smartphone of course) 😉

Camera

Do you know what’s crazy? I want to tell you – the 20MP camera on the rear. It“s massive! A camera with such a hugh resolution built-in a small thin body with only 9.61 mm. The camera is able to take videos in 4K resolution. There is no optical image stabilisation but a dual-tone LED flash.

With enough light there is no problem at all for taking quick pictures. For point and shoot a perfect camera. But you shouldn’t be a critical watcher. Therefore it is just a smartphone camera. M9 does have a manual mode and also a night mode. In low light conditions it is using the dual-tone LED flash which is also enough for a few pictures.

 Screen

The 1080p SuperLCD display was also built-in the HTC One M8. Can’t be possible? Nevermind! The 5-inch display has 441ppi which is less than the Samsung Galaxy S6 but what the … it is not offering less than a QHD screen but still super sharp. So where’s the problem? Right, there is is no doubt you can still enjoy watching movies, pictures or just read emails on this display.
The M9 is the smallest smartphone compared to the Samsung Galaxy S6, Sony XPeria Z3+ and the LG G4 rivals.

Power

The M9 is pulling out its power of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chipset paired with 3GB of RAM. This is at least enough power for an HD movie or playing newest games.

I was using the phone with pretty much only default settings and a few apps for daily interests.. I was also using the location based services. Therefore the battery (2,840mAh) last about 1.5 up to 2 days. It was depending on my daily usage. Sometimes I was just texting a little bit, at most one call and regularly checking emails. 1.5 day is ok. Of course all users still waiting for longer battery life. It might take a little bit, but luckily more than 1 day 😉

There is another cool fact on top of the phone. HTC calls it „Uh Oh Protection„. Basicalley HTC gives you an Innovative program which covers cracked screen or water damage for 12 months, or provides $100 off the next HTC One. That’s a pretty cool offer to be honest!

 Last words

You can’t be wrong with the HTC One M9. Everything you need will be in the phone. Also, the Android problems with not fast enough security updates are included. But that’s another problem. Don’t worry about asking yourself if this might be the right phone! It will definitley last 2 years and make you happy. Nice looking phone with great look and feel experience will satisfy you but for those of you who are not sure if you should get the M9 over the M8? To little changes and the price difference might let you decide for the older version… What’s next HTC?
